Think Green,
Think Silent
Our commitment to the environment.
For over four decades, Le Giornate del Cinema Muto has celebrated the history and preservation of cinematic art. Our eyes, however, are firmly set on the future of our planet: a major cultural event should also be an example of civic and environmental responsibility.
This is why we launched Think Green, Think Silent: a concrete commitment to progressively reduce the ecological footprint of our festival, actively involving our staff, our volunteers, our suppliers and our international audience
The Manifesto
Five pillars, concrete actions
I. Less paper, more digital
We actively promote the online consultation of our catalogue and programme.
Any essential printed material is produced solely on recycled and certified paper.
II. Waste management
We oversee waste sorting across all festival venues through dedicated recycling stations and the constant support of our tireless volunteer team, trained to help the public dispose of waste correctly.
III. Soft mobility
The heart of the festival beats in the centre of Pordenone. We encourage our audience to travel to the city by train and to walk between our partner hotels, our offices in Piazza XX Settembre and the Teatro Verdi.
For urban logistics, our staff uses the festival’s official cargo bike.
IV. Ethical merchandising
We reduce the impact of our promotional items: our iconic festival bags are made of recycled cotton, while our t-shirts and hoodies are made of organic cotton.
V. Short supply chain, zero miles
For catering and social events we choose local producers and regional cooperative wineries, promoting the excellence of Friuli Venezia Giulia while cutting transport-related emissions.
BEFORE YOU TRAVEL
The journey is the first act of the festival
Getting here
We invite you to join us in reducing our environmental footprint by opting for trains or other public transport. If driving is essential, we strongly encourage carpooling with fellow attendees: travelling together is a meaningful gesture of respect for our host region, and a wonderful opportunity to share your passion for cinema right from the start of your trip.
Where to stay
All our selected partner hotels stand out for their strategic location: they are just a short walk from both the Teatro Verdi and our operational offices in Piazza XX Settembre. This proximity lets you navigate the festival on foot throughout your stay, entirely eliminating the need for motorised transport in the city – a simple logistical choice that helps improve air quality while giving you the pleasure of fully experiencing the city’s welcoming atmosphere.
Every small gesture matters.
May the only trace we leave in Pordenone be the magic of cinema.
