Le Giornate del Cinema Muto sono partite, nel 1982, da Max Linder, ed è dunque con particolare tristezza che il festival ha accolto la notizia della scomparsa di Maud Linder (1924-2017), figlia del grande comico francese.

A Maud Linder fu assegnato a Pordenone nel 2009 il Premio Jean Mitry per la sua attività di riscoperta e valorizzazione delle opere cinematografiche del padre. Considerata una pioniera nella salvaguardia del cinema muto, iniziò la sua attività di ricerca alla fine degli anni '40 col recupero dei materiali e il loro restauro. The Scandinavian program featured at last October’s festival and one of the highlights of this past Giornate, will be screened in its entirety at New York’s ASF + Scandinavia House beginning on January 25th and ending February 3rd. The series is co-curated by Magnus Rosborn (Swedish Film Institute) and Casper Tybjerg.
American pianist Donald Sosin, well known to Pordenone habitues, will be accompanying the screenings with his son Nicholas Sosin.

The Pordenone Silent Film Festival and Cinema Ritrovato join forces for a major retrospective dedicated to the American director John M. Stahl. Following the first part in Bologna this June, featuring a wide-ranging selection of sound films by this master of melodrama, Pordenone will be showcasing his little known silent career, from The Lincoln Cycle of 1917 to In Old Kentucky of 1927. This important rediscovery is happening thanks to the vital collaboration of several American archives, especially The Library of Congress, which is providing new prints for the occasion. A new volume of essays on Stahl, edited by Charles Barr and Bruce Babington and published by John Libbey Publishing Limited, will be launched during the Pordenone retrospective.
