DISCOVERING FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA’S TREASURES

For its 44th edition, the Pordenone Silent Film Festival once again invites you to explore the wonders of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Not just cinema, but a 360-degree experience that combines a passion for the seventh art with the discovery of the region’s rich historical, artistic, and food-and-wine heritage.
Thanks to our well-established partnership with the Regional Department of Tourism of Friuli Venezia Giulia and ATAP, the public transport company of Pordenone, we are pleased to offer two exclusive excursions. Following the success of past editions—when we visited Udine, Aquileia, Cividale, and the places linked to Pasolini and the masters of the Friulian Renaissance—this year we’ll journey to two destinations of extraordinary charm: Gorizia, European Capital of Culture 2025, and the enchanting regional capital, Trieste.

1. Gorizia: GO! 2025 – In the Heart of the European Capital of Culture
Tuesday 7th October 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
An unmissable opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant cultural atmosphere of Gorizia, named European Capital of Culture together with Nova Gorica. Once nicknamed the “Nice of Austria” for its mild climate and elegant Mitteleuropean vibe, Gorizia is now a symbol of a borderless Europe, a laboratory of coexistence and dialogue where Latin, Slavic, and Germanic cultures meet.
Guided by an expert, we’ll uncover the city’s fascinating, layered history. The tour begins at its ancient heart—the medieval Castle of Gorizia, once home to the Counts of Gorizia and now the repository of the city’s Museum of the Middle Ages. From its ramparts, you’ll enjoy sweeping views over the city and the surrounding hills. We’ll then stroll down to the historic center, wandering through cobbled streets and elegant squares, such as the scenic Piazza Vittoria, framed by the Baroque Church of Sant’Ignazio and the Cathedral, a silent witness to Gorizia’s resilience.

Day’s schedule:

  • 8:30 a.m.: Departure by coach from Pordenone (Piazzale Ellero)
  • Morning: Arrival in Gorizia, guided tour of the historic center and the medieval castle
  • Lunch: A gourmet meal at Agriturismo alla Madonna, showcasing local flavors
  • Afternoon: Free time to explore the city at your leisure
  • 3:45 p.m.: Departure for return trip
  • 5:00 p.m.: Arrival back in Pordenone

2. Trieste: Miramare Castle and the Literary Charm of “Scontrosa Grazia”
Friday 10th October 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This excursion takes us to the regional capital, beginning with its most iconic landmark: the celebrated Miramare Castle. Overlooking the Gulf of Trieste, this 19th-century architectural gem was commissioned by Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg. We’ll explore its sumptuous rooms and stroll through its magnificent seaside park.
The journey continues into the heart of Trieste, a city steeped in literary allure—home to artists such as James Joyce, Italo Svevo, and Umberto Saba, who found inspiration in its historic cafés. Our guided walking tour begins at San Giusto Hill, with its castle and asymmetrical-fronted cathedral. We’ll descend through the medieval quarter, passing the Roman Theatre, and reach the lower town. Highlights include Piazza Unità d’Italia—Europe’s largest seafront square, framed by the historic Caffè degli Specchi—and the Borgo Teresiano district with its picturesque Canal Grande.

Day’s schedule:

  • 8:30 a.m.: Departure by coach from Pordenone (Piazzale Ellero)
  • Morning: Arrival and guided visit to Miramare Castle and its park
  • Lunch: A gourmet meal at the renowned restaurant Al Faro
  • Afternoon: Guided walking tour of central Trieste, exploring its history, culture, and celebrated coffee tradition
  • 5:00 p.m.: Arrival back in Pordenone
